Washington DC – Military Child Education Coalition’s (MCEC) 2019 National Training Symposium
Bailey Caldwell and Debbie Nichols represented MCCG at the Military Child Education Coalition’s (MCEC) National Training Symposium (NTS) 2019 in Washington DC. MCCG had an exhibit table, we promoted MilTeenChatTm App and our Children’s Courage Coins. Debbie and Bailey also attended off-site meetings with Pentagon, Reserve Officers Assoc. Hdqrs, MCEC executives. There was distribution and positive reaction by Military School Liaisons, Child & Youth, with our electronic marketing materials. MCEC agreed to distribute materials within their Student2Student, Junior2Junior and Parent2Parent programs. In addition, the MilTeenChat App will be featured in the MCEC newsletter and will publish an article authored by Debbie Nichols for their On the Move magazine.
Work Begins for new version of MilTeenChat App
Pitt Professor Judy Cameron of Psychiatry received a Chancellor’s grant to create the next version of the App. The new version will allow the app User to become a virtual character in a story. This will enable teens to expand their brain allowing to make better decisions. The new version will be released in the fall.
Playhouses donated to military families
Odyssey Teams a corporate team building company coordinated a team building event with Axis Capital to build playhouses for military children. MCCG was contacted to coordinate delivery to recipients. Debbie contacted Ida Humphry with the LA Air Force base. One house went to a disabled veteran’s children. MCCG delivered one house to a combat veteran’s family. The remaining 7 houses went to La Air Force Base families. Each playhouse weighed 150 lbs. and was 61 inches in height and valued at $300.00.
Update on Advocacy Efforts
September was very busy, with Debbie Nichols networking and advocating for military children.
The Pentagon has referred us to Kyle Fairbairn/ Military Impacted Schools Association. Debbie Nichols followed up on a referral from the Pentagon to Kyle Fairbairn of the Military Impacted Schools Association. Debbie was also a guest speaker on the Army Matters podcast produced by the Association United States Army. She shared how she founded Military Childrens Collaborative Group and discussed the MilTeenChat App that MCCG played a role in developing and rolling out nationwide.
Congressman Harley Rouda’s office asked Debbie to come and share what MCCG provides for military families.
