Tracking performance of Military Kids as a Group in Schools and other news! Every Student Succeeds Act Passed

The military student identifier recently became law as part of the “Every Student Succeeds Act” signed on December 10th. The data does not allow officials to identify individual students but will be used to learn how military students as a group perform in public schools. The identifier information will only be gathered for children of active duty. However, it is MCCG’s position that the identifiers should also include children of National Guard, Reserves, Veterans and Fallen Warriors. The bill also simplifies and speeds up impact aid to school districts. Karen Jowers outlines the details in her Military Times article.

Holiday Event for Children of Veterans Held at Senator Nguyen’s Office

MCCG, along with Wells Fargo Bank, AmeriCorps VISTA Child Guidance Center, Family Futures participated in a Holiday Celebration for Veterans and their families hosted by State Senator Janet Nguyen and her staff. MCCG contributed items for the toy drive for the event.

Thank you for your support

MCCG had a banner year in 2015, thanks to your support. We saw the expansion of Military Child Identifier information on school enrollment forms, co-hosted many Military Child recognition events with city proclamations, partnered with the OC Council of the Boy Scouts of America to raise awareness of Military Children through a patch program, and have BIG plans for 2016.
